Why An Email List Is Your Biggest Weapon
Let’s be honest.
If you post something on Instagram today, maybe 5–10% of your followers actually see it. On a good day. Most days it’s worse! You can have 10,000 followers and still struggle to get 300 eyeballs on an important announcement, especially as a business account.
That’s not a strategy. That’s hope.
Email is different.
If you send an email to 1,000 subscribers, 200–300 people will actually open it. Not scroll past it. Not miss it. Open it. And if you do things the right way, a chunk of those people will click, reply, or take action — because they already said they wanted to hear from you.
That alone should change how you think about your marketing.
People don’t “accidentally” join email lists. No one signs up by mistake. When someone gives you their email, they’re saying, “I’m interested enough to let you show up in my inbox.” That’s a much higher bar than a follow or a like.
And here’s the part most businesses ignore: you don’t need a massive list.
A list of 500 engaged people can easily outperform 20,000 followers who barely see your posts. If even 2–3% of that list takes action, that’s real movement. Sales. Event signups. Bookings. Whatever your goal is.
Social media is rented space. It works until it doesn’t. Algorithms change, reach drops, accounts get throttled — and suddenly you’re shouting into the void wondering what happened. Because Meta and TikTok aren't in the business of pushing your content unless you pay them to do so.
Email doesn’t work like that, and you don't have to pay big bucks for people to see what you're sending them.
If every platform shut you down tomorrow, your email list would still be sitting there, ready to hear from you. That’s why it’s a weapon. Not because it’s flashy — but because it works when everything else stops.
You can keep guessing with social media — or you can own your audience.
